"You told me she left town!"
"Well, I thought she did. Truth is, we are no longer in friends. I kinda felt all alone so when I bumped into you..."
"When you bumped into me? Victoria, you knew I was coming! You even said you thought it was better to tell me right away Keshia was gone."
Victoria knew there was no need to deny; yet she wasn't reading to give up without a fight.
"That's not exactly how it happened and you know it."
"I did contact you a few weeks ago, didn't I?"
Nathan didn't give Vicky time to answer.
"You told me Keshy wasn't seeing anyone and that she was probably ready to forgive. Only, I finally arrive and it's a whole different story; Keshia's gone. She's so gone, you want to take me out so I can have a good time and forget about it for a while."
"I swear to you, Nathan, I didn't know she'd be there."
"Vicky, she wouldn't have left town since she told me she will be graduating soon. You didn't know she'd be at the club but you sure as hell knew she was still in town."
Victoria stood silently... She watched Nathan gathering his belongings and throwing them in his suitcase. She had lost.
"I'm going to a hotel. DON'T EVER CONTACT ME AGAIN. Consider me dead, Victoria, just like I'll consider you dead. Too bad it's not actually true."
Victoria let herself fall on her bed and started crying. Was there really such a thing called karma? Nathan was far from perfection, how could he judge her? He didn't seem to mind staying at her place or having her flirt with him before he saw Keshia. She was feeling so alone and she missed Graham.
In a desperate move close to drunk dialing, between sobs, Vicky grabbed the phone and dialed Graham's number. A woman's voice, one that had become too familiar answered. Victoria quickly hung up.
No one would be keeping her cold heart warm tonight.
